Summer Vacation Checklist

Traveling somewhere fun soon? If you’re anything like me, you probably won’t even think about packing for your trip until the very last minute. And when that time does come, you’ll stare endlessly into your closet trying to decide where to begin with the whole packing-a-suitcase fiasco. But don’t stress! We’ve put together a checklist of items to ensure your don’t forget a thing.

  1. A Casual Outfit– Deep-V graphic tees like this one are so trendy this season! Pair it with some denim shorts or a denim skirt for the perfect casual look.

  1. A Romper- Rompers are the best item to bring on vacation with you. They look like you put maximum effort into your look and they are so comfy!

  1. A Dressy Outfit- You never know where your vacation will take you, so it’s always a good idea to pack one fancier dress outfit to bring with you, like this one. Jazz it up with some tassel earrings and a cute handbag.

  1. A Sweater– I know what you’re thinking- a sweater in the middle of summer?! But think about the breeze on the beach at night, it’s pretty chilly! Or if you’re like me, you’ll freeze when you go inside those restaurants that keep their thermostats at subzero temperatures. It can double as a swimsuit cover-up too!

  1. Swimsuit(s)- Of course you will need a swimsuit! This one is a no-brainer. One piece suits like this one with bright colored stripes are super trendy this summer!
  2. A Water Bottle- This one seems like a no-brainer. During a long, hot beach trip you’ll definitely need to stay hydrated to feel your best and keep your skin glowing. This one is our absolute favorite because it keeps your drink cool for 24 hours!
  3. A Beach Bag– You’ll want to bring a bag specifically for the beach, you don’t want the sun, sand, and salt to ruin your purse! One like this tote is the perfect choice and won’t break the bank. Be sure to fill your bag with sunscreen, a water bottle, sunnies, a hat, a towel, and snacks, of course!

Wherever this summer takes you, this checklist should keep you looking fashionable in the season’s latest styles!

el cap. and google maps

Remember when I was telling you about google maps and how I’m constantly looking at different places to discover? Well this morning, I learned that google maps has created a virtual route for climbing the Nose of El Capitan. Amazing. You can literally scroll up and see what the pro’s see. It’s an unbelievable sight and one that I’ll most likely never see. The history of El Capitian and Yosemite National Park is a world renowned one, a place that everyone has heard of. Can you imagine actually climbing it? Lynn Hill was the first woman to make the first free ascent of the nose in 1993 and just this year, Tommy Caldwell made the first free ascent of the Dawn Wall. Alex Honnold holds the record for climbing the nose mostly without a rope in just five hours.

Inspiring. A great reminder that there is so much to see and explore in this world.

You can climb the nose for yourself here.

And remember: “Fear of the unknown is the greatest fear of all.”

The Modern Taxi

There are so many options on how one should make it home safely…especially after consuming certain beverages. I know that for myself and many friends it seems difficult to find a taxi when it’s time to call it a night. Enter: Uber. This little app has changed my life. I love it and use it quite often. As we all know, you rate your driver after he or she drops you off at your desired location. However, until today, I was not aware that the driver themselves actually rate you as well, as a passenger! I know…Mind. Blown. I also found out that your rating depends on how quickly you get a ride…what?! Crazy, right?! Upon hearing this, I freaked out and immediately tried to find mine. Impossible. The only way to find your rating is by emailing Uber. So, that’s what I did. Five minutes ago. I’ll let you know what I find out…I’m kinda nervous about it. I’m sure you’re all wondering why I’m writing about taxi’s and uber’s, but I saw the video below earlier today. It’s hilarious and it prompted this specific post. I found it over at The New Potato … one of my favorite little corners on the world wide web.

Ha! Wasn’t that great…are you freaking about your Uber rating like me? Let me know below.

*Oh…this just in: 5.0 rating for this baller uber rider right here…if you need a ride home, let me know!

Thanks for emailing me back so quickly, Jas from Uber.

Heading South

In hopes that the predicted winter storm isn’t as bad as expected, I’m flying away tomorrow! If my flight is cancelled, I will die. Seriously. But I try to be a glass half full kind of lady, so with that, I’m going to share a little warmer weather playlist with you. Imagine this: yours truly posted up pool or beach-side (location TBD…you know, an in the moment kind of decision) with a drink in my hand and a book in the other. I know, I’d be jealous too. Below you’ll find the tunes I’ll most likely be jamming to when intense sunning is mandatory.

I love England…I think I’ve made that pretty clear with past posts. I’m so happy that Kaitlyn and I got to stop in Oxford for a night. We definitely wanted to make a stop here as it’s home to the one and only Oxford University plus, the city is rich in history and architecture. We wandered around this bike filled town and instantly fell in love. We immediately regretted our decision to study in Kentucky…oh well. Oxford makes you feel cultured and worldly…it’s like stepping back in time. It’s lovely.

This was our AirBnB…our host, Liz, was lovely.

Oxford rooftops…reminded me of Mary Poppins

Lunch in a greenhouse…casual

Oxford is a hipster’s dream

Balliol College courtyard

Balliol Dormitory

Balliol Dining hall…kinda like Hogwarts

Radcliffe Camera

One of the oldest bars in Oxford…it’s hidden and hard to find. Well worth the effort.

If you ever find yourself remotely close to this little city, you must stop by for a night…you’ll love it. I promise.

Stonehaven: Heaven On Earth

Stonehaven, Scotland is one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever been to. Nestled along the coast of the North Sea, this tiny fishing village is home of the most delicious ice cream, fish n chips + awe-inspiring views of cliffs and castles. Out of every city we visited in Scotland this one is how I envisioned the country. I’ve never felt so small or appreciated that feeling until hiking this coastal terrain. This is the place I constantly dream of and looking through the pictures below, I can’t believe I was actually there…it was magnificent, to say the very least. With the wind raging through our hair, we climbed the hills until we reached Dunnottar Castle. This Castle is nestled on a cliff over the North Sea, you must hike down and then back up to reach it’s impressive facade. If you’re ever in this part of Scotland, Stonehaven is a must see, take my word for it.

Today is a cold, dreary and rainy day in Lexington. As I sit at my desk, drinking, tea, I cannot help but think about the time I spent in London…almost 2 weeks ago. It’s hard to believe that I was actually there (I cannot and I mean cannot, wait to go back!). So, I thought I’d share some pictures of our first night in one of the prettiest cities I’ve ever visited.

At this time of year, the sun starts it’s descent around 4:15 and before you know it, the day is gone and early evening has begun. As we got off the tube at Green Park, we made our way through it’s tree lined path and before we knew it…stumbled upon Buckingham Palace, what a sight to see. We saw the changing of the guard and took what felt like 5,879 selfies and made our way through yet another Park, this time St Jame’s, and there it was. Westminster Abbey and St. Margaret’s Cathedral all lit up for us and quite frankly, showing off. It was like a dream.

We strolled across Westminster Bridge and took some touristy photos and made our way to the walk by the Thames. Along the walk, we came across beautiful lights and a little holiday-land full of little shops and people everywhere.

We stopped for a hot chocolate + Bailey’s and of course, a selfie. I suggest you make yourself a hot chocolate and bailey’s…you’ll thank yourself for it.

We made our way back across the Hungerford Bridge and decided to roam the streets, waiting for a cozy little spot to catch our eye. I must say, for our first night in London, we were rather lucky to stumble across the best wine bar I’ve ever been to, Gordon’s.

Being London’s oldest wine bar, you can feel the history as soon as you walk down the stairs into it’s cave-like bar. It was perfectly European and we felt like Londoner’s there…we enjoyed our Malbec on a long heated courtyard and talked the night away. The night was buzzing with excitement and our first Friday in London was one of the best Friday nights I’ve ever had!

Needless to say, I think everyone at Gordon’s had a great evening, the perfect kickoff to the weekend!

Wanderlust Wednesday

Let’s switch gears this week and put the spotlight on foggy London town. As luck may have it, I’m actually headed to London tomorrow with my bestie and we cannot wait. Months of planning have gone into our little United Kingdom getaway…we’re starting in London and working up all the way to Aberdeen, with a stop in Germany. Plus, we’re meeting up with one of our dearest and closest friends along the way! I honestly haven’t been this excited for a trip, maybe ever. I actually don’t really want to go tomorrow because I already don’t want it to end…but that just means we’ll have to come back a little more quickly next time around. I’m thinking Paris this fall…sounds lovely right? But don’t let me get carried away…here are some lovely pictures of London. I started following  London on Instagram and I can’t stop looking at all of the wonderful photos. There’s so much to see and so little time!

Have you ever been to London…any good tips?

Let me know in the comments below : )

See ya in a few weeks!

Wanderlust Wednesday’s

Let’s bring the focus back to the ole U.S. of A. There’s plenty to see and explore throughout this great nation and I’ve still got a lot to see…Chicago is the furthest west I’ve ever been. Time to get going, I know! My mind’s been focusing on the west…places like Colorado, Montana and Wyoming. Wouldn’t it be life’s greatest adventure to get out in the mountains and ride that horse into the sunset? It would be a dream come true. Wind River Range may be one of the most beautiful places (definitely click on that hyper-link!) I’ve ever discovered on Google maps. Bonus: it’s right in our backyard! This is one of those places that truly takes your breath away and I can’t even fathom how small you would feel in this spot. It would be incredible.

Doesn’t it make you want to get out there and start living the simple mountain life? It definitely has that affect on me. I have a friend out there who keeps asking us to come visit…I’m thinking we’ll take the plunge this spring.

Have you been out west…where’s your favorite destination?
